What are you building

When i am building any product I keep asking some questions once in a while: Is the product i am building getting better over time, am i taking the help i needed or just building it all myself, are the customers finding the product reliable, in times of a bad day how is the product communicating, do users love or hate usnig the product etc

While all these questions hold true for whatever i am building at reflektive, I was referring to one other product . This a product which gets built quietly while we are busy trying to build something at a company. The product i talked about is my career.

For this product, i am the product manager. developer, qa, sales and everything else. I found it is a great exercise to ponder about these questions once in a while. It helps me understand what i features i need to build, what is going great and what are some shitty areas of the product. It helps me to make me realize if i don’t care this product, this is going to be outdated. It also make me realize i am the sole person responsible for product growth and lack of it.

One good way a found to abstract this concept is to treat yourself as an api to others. Everything becomes easy to understand. Does this api work, is it performant, does it throw right error messages, etc. This has helped me be a good team player and eventually grow.

What questions do you ask yourself ? Curious to know …
